When we buy books, we think we are also buying the time it takes to read them. - Barbara Hemphill in Taming the Paper Tiger.
That’s a good metaphor for life.
To get the best from a book, you must read the whole book.
So the same for life.
But to really live life requires something more. Something that Santiago the shepherd boy learned to be one’s Personal Legend.
It is the reason we were put on this earth. To find it and never settle until we have achieved it.
The worlds greatest lie: At a certain point in our lives we lose control of what’s happening to us and that our lives become controlled by fate.
As a shepherd, Santiago is plagued with the same dream, twice. Being at the feet of the great pyramids he finds a treasure. That dream becomes the driving force of his mishaps and ultimate destination.
There are many lessons that fly off of the pages, but only one that I think must be shared with our children’s children. It was given by the Alchemist to Santiago in the darkest time …
‘Before the dream is realized the soul of the world tests everything that was learned along the way.
It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we’ve learned as we’ve moved toward that dream.
That’s the point that most people give up.
In the language of the desert: one dies of thirst just as the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.’
‘And when you want something all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.’ - King of Salem
Keep going when it is hard, because that is what makes every legend who they are.
Until next week-
